29th July - Risen

The World Boxing Council
Night of Champions event begins with the
Premiere of the Film ‘Risen’

The first ever Welsh film to get a World Premiere on Welsh soil.

This film puts Wales at the vanguard of international Arts news, and will help launch a planned arts exhibition in the venue, the Cardiff International Arena.
The film chronicles the story of Howard Winstone, an exceptional man who suffered an horrific industrial accident as a youngster, and lost three fingers on his right hand. Howard was unable to make a fist with his right hand, effectively leaving him one-handed. However, he went on to become a Featherweight World Champion; an amazing achievement, considering his handicap.
With the World press and the largest ever gathering of Champions, past and present, a range of renowned actors and artists attending, this Welsh film has been given every opportunity to prove a real world-beater. The film, made in Wales, carries a true sense of pride for both the sport and the nation, and carries a narrative aimed to encourage all people, able-bodied and disabled, from every background, to never give up, to never give in and to give your all, regardless of personal boundaries.
The Film Premiere coincides with the launch of the World Boxing Council Night of Champions festival, and both events will compliment each other, drawing international crowds to revel in all aspects of the festival. 'Risen: The Howard Winstone Story' will make headlines worldwide; numerous stars of stage and screen, including Shane Ritchie and John Noble, star in the film alongside boxing greats including Érik Morales, Tim Witherspoon and Enzo Maccarinelli, and the presence of over 15 World Champions in the film will no doubt earn it an instant ‘cult’ status and dedicated following.
